Jay Peak Weekend

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Linda and I had a great weekend up at Jay peak. Lots of sun, the temperature was around 30. This time of year, it’s only mid-afternoon when the lifts shut down at 4:00 pm, but I guess that leaves extra time for relaxing in the sun. There was lots of snow, though it was mostly a hard, smooth surface with a little loose stuff on top. Great stuff for working on those carved turns on the board.

Shawnee Peak

Matti and I went to Shawnee Peak Saturday. It started pretty cold, but warmed up a bit as the day went on. We had a great time. Shawnee Peak is a nice, small-ish mountain with lots of intermediate trails. No lift lines, reasonable ticket prices. it was my first time out this season, and I felt really great. Had a bit of trouble with backside turns chattering on me, but half way through the day figured out I just needed to get lower, in classic knuckle-dragger form. I do need to pick up another later to make up for the lack of body fat that used to keep me warm.

Back to Jay Peak

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

We went back to Jay Peak expecting some spring skiing. As it turned out, Saturday was a bit warm (40′s), but in snowed most the day Sunday. We had a great time. We stayed in the new Tram Lodge right at the base.
The young moose was right in the trail – Sam nearly skiied into him on Saturday morning. It seems he’s been hanging around there the whole season.

The kids did two days, I worked from the lodge’s wifi the first day, then snowboarded the second. The conditions weren’t great, but the weather was nice. We had a fun time.

Sunday River

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Sunday RiverMatti and I went to Sunday River. We had lots of wind and snow squalls all day. They were down to one lift from 11:00 on due to high winds; 70 MPH gusts at the top. Matti and I had fun anyway, since it sent the less-dedicated folks packing.

Some pictures from the day. I brought our little snapshot camera – it did pretty well. I got some video of the clouds whipping by – have to see if I can put that up somewhere.
